Although it is going to differ from home to home, or office to office, when you are decorating any space, there are certain things you should choose to do, and stick with it once you have made the decision. Otherwise you can spend days or even weeks going back and forth. Find something you like, and once you find it, buy the paint, but the borders, trims, and the colors, and go with it for the space.

• Don’t overlook what you own

It may be an old chair, and the fabric might be torn, but you don’t want to overlook what is right in front of you. There are certain items that have potential; especially if you have vintage items, or older items you have had for years, try to find a way to incorporate them in to the theme and style you are going for. With a little touch up, new fabric, or a simple sanding of the wood, these items can have an entirely new look and feel.

• Consider use

You have to keep what the space is used for in mind when decorating. It is very easy to go with fun colors, unique borders, and other unique styles, but depending on use, you sometimes have to tone it down. You have to keep this in mind when decorating.
